AFPS16 Comma Butterfly in flight above Verbena Bonensiaris
Photography by Andrew Fusek Peters
‘The Comma butterfly is named after the white mark on its underwing that does indeed resemble the curly comma which gives pause to our sentences. I had been trying for a couple of weeks to get one in flight. On a sunny afternoon as it nectared on the Verbena Bonensiaris, I had a feeling I might be in with a chance. It was also interesting to catch that incredible scalloped shape to the wing, the jade green markings and the proboscis fully out as 1/5000nof second froze the moment’
