AFP38 Tawny Owl chick learning to fly
Shropshire Wildlife greeting card.
Photography by Andrew Fusek Peters
“Though Tawny Owls are common in the UK, they are normally more seen than heard. But I was fortunate this year to hear about a pair that had bred in a very suburban garden in Bishop’s Castle. These owls were used to land owners, passing cars and trucks, streetlights and all the noise of the town, so it was lovely to catch this moment of one of the chicks learning to fly and brushing against the telegraph pole in the garden. A wonderful emblem of wildlife living alongside and despite us.”
