AFP41 Little egret in blizzard
Photography by Andrew Fusek Peters
"I tried to photograph little egret at our local lake but this was a bird who would take off even as I lifted my lens from half a mile away. All this changed when the blizzard came to envelop our village. I walked to the lake to see egret perched on an island in the middle. It took off and flared through the snow, until I ended up with a picture like a Japanese painting – the white of the egret and the snow, the yellow of that eye and claws and the streamlined shape slipping through the worst of our UK weather. Shortlisted for Wildlife Photographer of the Year."
